Product Safety & Care

Last updated: October 22, 2026

We're moms first. Every taytae set has to be something we'd put on our own kids — soft enough to wear all day, and safe enough that we never think twice about it. Here's exactly how we handle safety, and how to make your set last.

Safety standards we follow

Children's clothing in the U.S. is regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA), and we take every part of it seriously.

Lead and phthalates. Children's products must stay under strict federal limits for lead in paint, lead in substrate, and phthalates. Our manufacturer tests to these limits through a CPSC-accepted third-party lab, and we keep a Children's Product Certificate on file for every style we sell.

Flammability. Our fabrics meet the general wearing apparel flammability standard (16 CFR Part 1610).

Tracking labels. CPSIA requires a permanent tracking label on children's clothing, so an item can be traced back to the run it came from. If you ever need to identify the run behind a piece you own — for a safety question, or because you've seen a recall notice — email us at support@taytae.com with the style and size and we'll trace it for you.

No neck or hood drawstrings. Drawstrings at the neck and hood are a documented strangulation hazard, and we don't use them — on anything, in any size. This follows ASTM F1816, the voluntary industry standard. Any waist tie we use is a short, sewn-down fabric tie, not a pull-through cord.

No snaps, buttons, or small trims. Our sets pull on, with no hard closures and no decorative pieces that could work loose and become a choking hazard. There is nothing on a taytae set for a toddler to pull off and put in their mouth.

Our garments are made in China.

An important note about sleepwear

taytae sets are daywear and playwear. They are not children's sleepwear.

That distinction matters more than it sounds. Federal rules for children's sleepwear (16 CFR Parts 1615 and 1616) require garments to be either flame-resistant or snug-fitting, because loose, untreated fabric near a flame is a genuine risk. Our sets are made to a relaxed, comfortable fit and are certified as general wearing apparel — not as sleepwear.

We know kids fall asleep in whatever they're wearing, and we're not going to pretend otherwise. We just won't market these as pajamas, and you should know they aren't designed or tested for that use.

For children under 3

Our smaller sizes are made with little ones in mind, but please use judgment:

  • Check seams, cuffs, and elastic before every wear. If a seam has split or elastic has pulled away from the fabric, stop using the garment and email us.
  • Remove any hang tags, pins, and packaging before dressing your child.
  • Don't alter the garment in a way that adds small pieces or cords.

Everyday safety habits

  • Inspect seams and elastic when you take the set out of the wash
  • Replace garments that have become too tight around the neck, wrists, or ankles
  • Keep plastic packaging away from children
  • Retire anything with worn-out elastic or split seams

Fabric and fit

Fabric content: 100% cotton

Sizes: 2T–8/9. Our size guide lists garment measurements taken flat, not body measurements. Measure a piece your child already wears well and compare — it's the most reliable way to get the size right the first time.

Expect a relaxed fit. Our sets are cut for crawling, climbing, and growing into.

How to care for your set

Wash

  • Machine wash cold, on a gentle cycle
  • Turn inside out to protect the print
  • Wash with similar colors
  • Use a mild, dye-free detergent — the kind you'd already use for kids' clothes

Don't

  • No bleach, and no "color-safe" bleach alternatives
  • No fabric softener — it coats fibers and makes cotton less absorbent and less soft over time
  • No dry cleaning

Dry

  • Tumble dry low, or lay flat to dry
  • Line drying is gentlest and keeps the print brightest

Press

  • Warm iron inside out if needed
  • Never iron directly on a printed area

Expect a little shrinkage. Our sets are 100% cotton, and natural fibers relax and shrink slightly in the first wash — usually under 3%. Washing cold and drying low keeps it minimal, and it's one more reason not to size down.

On stains: treat them fast with cold water and a gentle stain remover, and let the piece air dry so you can see whether the stain lifted before heat sets it.

Reporting a safety concern

If you ever notice something unsafe about a taytae garment, please tell us immediately at support@taytae.com. Include the style, the size, a photo, and the tracking label text if you can read it. We'll respond within one business day, replace or refund the item, and investigate the production run it came from.

You can also report an unsafe product directly to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission at SaferProducts.gov or 1-800-638-2772.

If we ever had to recall a product, we would email every customer who bought it and post a notice on this page and on our Instagram. We'd tell you fast and we'd make it right.

Questions

Email support@taytae.com — including the "is this safe for my 18-month-old?" questions. We'd always rather answer.
